Kala Chana Tikki

My second guest on my radio shoe was a close friend from college and my dietician/nutritionist. A huge part of my weight loss journey and 2AM friend.

She shares with us on Bharat FM a healthy and yet simple recipe.

Kala chana tikki is a favorite in our house. you can tweak the recipe to add veggies of your choice and though the recipe is there to give you a basic guideline you can change the veggies depending on your availability. if the potato is a little too soggy just add more oats.

I personally do not like sweet oats. so this is my way of getting healthy into my kids.

of course we love Achari oats khichdi. you can find the recipe on my facebook page. (I will soon add the recipe and the pictures here too)

Here is what you need,

Soaked and boiled kala chana - 1.5 cup

Boiled potato - 1

Boiled carrot + broccoli - 1 cup

Onion -1/2 cup

Oats powder -1/2 cup

Chaat masala- 1 tsp

Cumin jeera powder - 1 tsp

Red chilli powder or green chilli -1

Chopped cilantro -1/4th cup

Salt

Ghee for shallow fry.

Lets get cooking.

Mix all ingredients in a food processor, make tikkis and shallow fry.

Yes this recipe is that easy. However i have a few tips I would like to add.

  1. Soak the Kala chana over night. When you pressure cook them leave them on slow flame for 15 minutes after the first few whistles. Let the pressure release naturally. I have leant that for cooking patience is key.

  2. If your potato is soggy or too big and your tikki breaks while cooking just add some more oats powder.

  3. If the mixture seems too dry soak some oats in water and use after squeezing out the water.

  4. Dont have oats powder? Take your regular oats and blend them in a dry blender jar.

I am attaching a link to the Bharat FM radio Facebook and youtube page. you can check out more recipes there as well.
